Harry Dore is a gorgeous little 8 year old boy from Corbally Limerick who suffers with various medical issues including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Epilepsy.
After spending a few hours with Harry, and his parents Louise and Ciaran and brothers, Billy and Daniel, I really appreciate the absolute the challenge facing parents of children with autism, not just on a daily basis, but on an hourly basis.
There is absolutely no time to relax or socialise or even get a break away. It is non-stop attention. I found it exhausting so God only knows what these young parents have to endure... and always with a smile and good humour.
You are all truly wonderful parents who love their children dearly and work so hard to give them some quality of life and I salute each and every one of you!!
This is why I want to build Dreamland Limerick.
When the Dream Team received a request from his mum Louise, the team immediately got to work to realise this courageous boys' dream. So, Woody along with his friends and the Dream Machine arrived to Harry's home yesterday where they put on a special show for Harry, his family and friends. Later Harry and his new friends got to explore the inside of the magical Dream Machine for 2 hours.
His Mum couldn't believe how relaxed he was in the Dream Machine and the fact after two hours he didn't want to get out.
"Thank you so much for calling to Harry with the Dream Machine as he is deprived of so much with his autism, he was thrilled and the excitement was magical. We are so grateful to everyone in the Share A Dream Foundation for making Harry smile" said mum Louise. "Just to see him laugh and play with his brothers, cousins and friends gave him a bit of normality in his life was unbelievable".
11yr old Ruairi Kiernan from Naas, Co. Kildare was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March 2015 when he was just 10yrs old.
Ruairi absolutely loves comic books and drawing sketches for his books.
Ruairi is a huge fan of Irish Author and Screenwriter Derek Landy who is best known for the Skulduggery Pleasant series of young adult's books.
So, when Ruairi’s mum Claudine contacted Share a Dream to see if they could make Ruairi’s dream a reality to meet Derek and get some writing tips and advice and even get some of his sketches made into a real comic book they got to work.
Last Thursday the 18th of February Ruairi met his hero Derek Landy in the Crowne Plaza hotel in Blanchardstown at 1pm.
Ruairi spent an hour chatting to the author getting some advice about his own comic book Ruari is writing as well as talk about the Skulduggery series books that Ruairi loves.
Tommy Kelly Shaw is a brave little boy from Birr, Co. Offaly who suffers from brain and spine cancer.
In the past time he has endured a huge amount so for his 5th birthday his parents wanted to organise something really special.
Tommy loves Mickey, Minnie, Donald and all of Disney characters, so on the day of his birthday the Dream Machine & the Dream Team headed to Tommy’s house to surprise him and make his dream come true.
An amazing birthday party took place and Tommy just couldn’t believe that his favourite characters, along with his friends & family, where there to celebrate with him.
After the party the fun continued as he had the opportunity to enjoy the magical inside the Dream Machine, playing with a very important friend.
When Granny Bridie from Barna, Co. Galway contacted the Share a Dream to ask if they could bring their Dream Machine to Galway to visit her 4 year old grandson Ronan who was fighting a terrible life threatening illness, Share a Dream immediately got to work.
On the 29th of December the Dream Machine the Dream Team headed from Limerick to Galway but did not expect to do battle with superstorm “Frank” along the way, wich was a frightening experience.
Fortunately, the Dream Team was able to organise the best Christmas party ever for Ronan and all his family. Ronan's favourite characters Mickey, Minnnie, The Minion, Donald and Woody all arrived to his door to meet him and later he enjoyed playing inside the Dream Machine – the interactive fun bus.
“Thank you Shay for making the day so special, you battled through Storm “Frank” to make it to us, to put a smile on a very special little boys face. You do amazing work and truly made a huge impact on both the kids and the adults” said Ronan’s Aunt Amanda Gaynor.
14 years old Caoimhe O’ Neill from Dukes meadows, Kilkenny is like any girl her age she loves fashion, clothes and make-up. Unfortunately, unlike most 14 year olds she suffers from aortic regurgitation, asthma and Sjorgens syndrome. Also, in April this year she was diagnosed with Lupus and Rheumatoid factor positive.
Her sister Aoibhinn wrote to Share a Dream to make Caoimhe‘s fondest dream come true as she is denied so much that most young girls her age take for granted. “Caoimhe dreams of having a VIP girly day be pampered and feel like a top model” she said. So, Caoimd had the opportunity to meet her own Personal Shopper Karen Morrissey and other models from Assets, to do what was necessary to get her ready to walk the cat walk.
Full of confidence the new Caoimhe made her debut to being a top model at the Black Friday Fashion Extravaganza in the Mac Donagh Shopping Centre where she received a standing ovation.
According to top model and stylist Karen Fitzgerald Caoimhe was a natural and Mum and sister agreed.
